Original language description

The symposium aims to uncover the changes in opportunities for female scientists during the crucial years of the 20th century in Central and Eastern Europe. Especially Central and Eastern European countries fundamentally changed their research policies and the newly established scientific institutions after the WWI, as well as after the WWII, and in the 1970s. New state institutes, new universities and later on the Academies of Sciences were founded. State scientific politics thus broadened the possibilities for academic positions for women. The symposium aims to analyze the influence of changes during crucial years on the academic community, especially on the change of the role of female scientists at universities and other academic institutions. We would like to follow the changes, that presented more academic opportunities for a new generation of scientists, especially for women, as well as influence of the transformation of the science politics during political changes in different countries.Symposium presents continuity of the important research on the role of women in science and it is held on behalf of a Commission on Women and Gender in Science, Technology and Medicine.
