This paper reports the results of an original contingent valuation survey in the Czech Republic where residents of three cities (Prague, Brno, and Ostrava) were asked to report information about their Willingness to Pay (WTP) for reductions in their ownrisk of dying for cardiovascular and respiratory causes. By focusing on these causes of death, we obtain WTP figures that are immediately applicable to the climate change and environmental policy contexts. The VSL is then obtained by dividing WTP by therisk reduction being valued. Using the survey data, we estimate mean VSL to be 40.16 million CZK (EUR 1.27 million at the current exchange rate, EUR 2.86 million at the Purchasing Power Parity. The VSL is lower for older people, but not for individuals with chronic cardiovascular or respiratory illnesses.

Článek představuje výsledky původního valuačního šetření v, v němž byla zjišťována ochota rezidentů tří českých měst (Prahy, Brna a Ostravy) platit (WTP) za snížení svého rizika úmrtí na kardiovaskulární a respirační onemocnění. Zaměřením na tyto příčinyúmrtí byla získána hodnota WTP, kterou lze přímo vztáhnout ke kontextu klimatických změn a environmentálních opatření. Podílem ochoty platit a snížení rizika úmrtí, které bylo oceňováno, je získána hodnota statistického života (VSL). Na základě dat bylaodhadnuta průměrná hodnota VSL ve výši 40,16 mil. Kč (1,27 Mil. EUR ve směném kurzu, 2,86 Mil. EUR v paritě kupní síly). Hodnota statistického života je nižší pro starší osoby, nikoliv však pro osoby s chronickými kardiovaskulárními a respiračními onemocněními.
