Original language description
This article examines the development of material consumption in three transition economies during the years 1990? 2002. It compares the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Poland and benchmark their material consumption against average values for the 15 memberstates of the European Union representing a typical market economy. We investigate the relation between material consumption, population development, economic growth, and technological change during the transition.

Článek sleduje vývoj materiálové spotřeby ve třech tranzitních ekonomikách v letech 1990-2002. Zaměřuje se na materiálovou spotřebu České republiky, Maďarska a Polska a porovnává ji s materiálovou spotřebou v 15 státech Evropské Unie, které reprezentujítypickou tržní ekonomiku. Článek dále zkoumá vztah mezi materiálovou spotřebou, vývojem populace, ekonomickým růstem a technologickou změnou v období transformace.
