Control of Hypertension in Patiens with Hypertension, Diabetes , and Impaired Fasting Glucose by Czech Primary Care Physician
Original language description
Hypertension, occurring more frequently in diabetic patients, substantially increases the risk of cardiovascular complications. The occurrence of hypertension and diabetes increases with age. Aggressive reduction in BP, aiming at goal BP values of less than 130/80 mmHg generally, and less than 125/75 mmHg in a population with proteinuria higher than 1 g per 24 hours, is essential. If the goal BP values cannot be achieved by lifestyle modifications, drug treatment is indicated. In Type-2 diabetic patients with high-normal BP (130?139/ 85?89 mmHg), in whom goal BP may occasionally be achieved by monotherapy alone, drug therapy should be initiated by inhibition of the renin-angiotensin system. Most diabetic patients require combination treatment to reachgoal BP values.
