Original language name
Lipoperoxidation in elderly humans with hyperhomocysteinemia in the course of selenium supplementation
Original language description
Increased oxidative stress plays an important role in the aging processes. Besides, elevated plasma homocysteine, particularly evident in elderly, has been recognized as a risk factor for many pathological states including oxidative stress. Selenium as acomponent of antioxidative enzymes is associated with the protection against oxidative stress. The aim of this study was to assess plasma malondialdehyde as a marker of lipid peroxidation in relationship to selenium in hyperhomocysteinemic elderly subjects in the course of a long-term selenium supplementation.
