Occurence and lateralizing value of "rare" peri-ictal vegetative symptoms in temporal lobe epilepsy

  • Original language description

PIVS are relatively frequent ictal signs in patients with temporal lobe epilepsy. The most frequently observed PIVS are peri-ictal coughing and peri-ictal water drinking. Other signs are rare (peri-ictal vomiting, peri-ictal spitting). It is probable thatat least peri-ictal coughing, water drinking and vomiting have lateralizing significance and occur more often in temporal lobe epilepsy of the language-nondominant temporal lobe.
