Original language description
Patients and methods: We examined in cooperation with general practitioners 161 seniors, 60 men and 101 women of average age 73,2+5,9 years living in their own environment in a rural area. These seniors underwent functional geriatric testing (MMSE, ADL,IADL, Geriatric Depression Scale). The history of patients and their medications were considered., Data were analyzed by statistical methods, Student T-test, chi quadrate test, regression analysis. Results: We found 11 seniors of studied group (6,8%) achieving MMSE below 23 and 34 seniors (21,1%) with MMSE between 24-26. Alltogether 45 seniors of studied group showed cognitive decline but in 5 only this diagnosis appeared in patient sheet. ADL and IADL values were strongly dependent on MMSE value (r=0,60, p<0,01, r=0,55, p<0,01). Conclusions: Cognitive impairment is much more frequent in elderly population living in own environment as really diagnosed,it means later start of therapy and more prompt loss of independency.
