The fundamental changes in Czech society after November 1989 have been, and are being, accompanied by a so far unseen interest in philosophical literature and in the study of philosophy. The themes of Czech philosophy are very heterogenous. Interesting results have been presented by Czech philosophers in, above all, the areas of phenomenology, analytical philosophy, moral and political philosophy, and the history of Czech and world philosophy. In this context it is clear that the main task of institutesand departments of philosophy is to communicate to students the most important parts of the philosophical and the spiritual cultural heritage that forms the basis of western civilisation. A no less important task is to provide with a thorough orientation in the philosophical problems of biology and physics and in the methodology of social sciences, with emphasis on the application of the approaches of modern critical rationalism. Czech description

Zásadní přeměny české společnosti po listopadu 1989 provázel a provází nebývalý zájem o filosofickou literaturu a studium filosofie. Tematicky je česká filozofie velmi různorodá. Zajímavé výsledky dosahují čeští filozofové zejména v oblasti fenomenologie, analytické filozofie, morální a politické filozofie, dějin české a světové filozofie. Hlavním úkolem filosofických pracovišť je zprostředkovat studentům nejdůležitější součásti filosofického a duchovně kulturního dědictví, které tvoří základ západní civilizace; neméně závažným úkolem je poskytnout důkladnou orientaci ve filozofických problémech biologie a fyziky, v metodologii společenských věd s důrazem na uplatňování přístupů moderního kritického racionalismu. Právě v tom, průpravě kritického myšlení je třeba vidět hlavní roli filosofie v Česku vůbec.
