The article provides an analysis of prosimetrum, the mixed style, in the work The Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien, professor of Old English and Old English Literature. After an account of the tradition of the poetic device in question, the author comments on its particular occurrence in the book by Tolkien. She emphasizes that the extent of the verse passages in Tolkien considerably varies and that even if the verses are not often stylistically incorporated into the prose context, the prosimetrum inThe Lord of the Rings is nevertheless a stylistically relevant prosimetrum, in which the story unfolds, continues and brings new information.

Czech description

Článek pojednává o prozimetru, smíšeném stylu, v díle profesora staroanglického jazyka a literatury J.R.R. Tolkiena Pán prstenů. V úvodu se autorka věnuje vývoji daného básnického prostředku od antiky až do doby moderní, aby se následně mohla vyjádřit kjeho specifickému použití v Tolkienově knize. Autorka upozorňuje na různý rozsah jednotlivých veršových partií u Tolkiena a také na to, že ačkoli syntaktické zapojení veršů do prozaického kontextu není u Tolkiena častým jevem, jedná se přesto mnohdy o plnohodnotné prozimetrum, neboť děj se ve verších posouvá dopředu, pokračuje a přináší nové informace.
