Whose Message Will Win the Souls? The Future Development of Religious Life in Cyberspace and Its "Chinese Characteristic"
Original language description
Internet culminates the development of tools for human communication that begins with appearance of language and continues with inventions of writing, typography, radio, television to the contemporary computer mediated communication. At each stage of applying these new tools in human society, its basic functions were changed deeply through the human history. The sphere of religions was obviously not left outside the transformation processes. With the rise of contemporary information technologies we canpredict radical changes on the religious scene, parallel to those connected with the communication revolutions of the past. We can suppose that the religious traditions that will most effectively adapt to the new technologies will be the most successfulones on the globalised market of world religions. According to this observation, the article is trying to find general characteristics that may allow some religious movements succeed in this process.
