Sangha in Buryatia at the Beginning of the 21st Century: Triad of National Buddhist Jewels
Original language description
The traditional Buddhist sangha in Russia, the main part of the Buddhist community, pronounced the so called triad of national Buddhist jewels the most precious sacraments located in Buryatia. The set consists of the statue of Sandalwood Buddha (Zandan zhuu), the collection of anatomical and medical sheets (folios) from the 17th century (Atlas of Tibetan Medicine) and the mumified body of the 12th Bandido Khambolama Itigelov (1852-1927). This institution of a threefold jewel has no precedent in Buryatiaand the question arises why it was established. This contribution attempts to answer the question on the background of religious changes in the post-soviet Buryatia.
