Opening Stages of Basis School Headteachers´ Professional Careers
Original language description
This text treats the opening phases of the execution of the headteacher function: becoming a headteacher. Some typical stages of headteacher career are presented, specifically the decision-making about the career change (to become a hearteacher), the assumption of headteachership, and the adaptation to the new professional role. Based on a qualitative research, important life events in the beginnings of headteachers' professional careers are outlined. Narrative approach in the form of the comprehensivemethod of life story was chosen as the framework design for data collection and interpretation. The retrospective view makes it possible to grasp the interaction between the image of important life events and the vertical shifts in the hitherto career. Also, the text supports the hypothesis that apart from shaping the prospective development of the headteachers' professional career, such stages significantly affect school management, too.
