    Directness and Indirectness in Drama: Speech Act Analysis

  • Original language description

    The paper deals with the analysis of dramatic dialogues within the framework of the theory of direct and indirect speech acts. It further explains indirectness and its usage in dramatic discourse (mainly, direct speech acts motivated by direct speech acts, indirect speech acts motivated by direct speech acts, direct speech acts motivated by indirect speech acts and finally indirect speech acts motivated by indirect speech acts), sums up and comments on theoretical definitions and assumptions concerningthe theory of speech acts given by some linguists. This work further discusses the usage of speech acts in conversational situations with the accent particularly on directness/indirectness and its application in the language of drama.
