Ludvík Kundera (1891-1971) and his Russian handbook of Czech music
Original language description
The essay analyses the book called "About the music of the Czechoslovak nation" (O muzyke čechoslovackago naroda), which was written by Ludvík Kundera, a Czech musicologist, during his angagement in the Czechoslovak legions in Russia. The author focuses on Kundera´s insight into the importance of Czech musicians in Russian musical culture, his reflections on the Czech and Slovak folklore, the Czech national music and, last but not least, his suprisingly conservative view of Leoš Janáček, his teacher, and an adored composer later.
