Game of drones: Remotely extended minds in war
Original language description
Drone operators are usually considered as removed from the battlefield, and therefore protected from any harm. Those "cubicle warriors", as they are sometimes referred to, however, suffer from the same mental issues connected to war as soldiers deployed in harm’s way do. In this talk, we will look at this phenomenon through the lens of the extended mind theory. We will consider the minds of drone operators as remotely extended into war zone through drones they operate. Subsequently, epistemological as well as ethical implications will be examined.
