Possible parallels in the urban musical culture of Brno and Vienna in 16th century
Original language description
The musical culture of Brno in the 16th century can not be judged without taking into consideration its location on the route between Vienna and Wroclaw. First part of the paper is comparing musical production in city churches in Brno and Vienna. This involves particularly St. James‘s church in Brno and St. Stephen‘s cathedral in Vienna. Both of these churches were held under the patronage of the city council which influenced their economics as well. The second part of the paper reflects preserved musical sources of the similar character in Brno and Vienna in 16th century (format, repertoire, reformal influence and other). This means in particular a pair of unique renaissance manuscripts BAM 1 and BAM 2 from Brno (Brno City Archive) and also less reflected couple of manuscripts Mus. Hs. 15499 a Mus. Hs. 15500, stored in Department of Music in Austrian national library in Vienna.
