Boccaccio Dramatised : the English Kempe, the German Pickelhering and the Czech Polapená nevěra (1608), and the Historiographic Limits of Certainty
Original language description
This paper, firstly, looks at the textual evidence of the popularity of a Boccaccian novella in early modern theatre – namely England, Germany and the Czech lands; not looking at whole plays but rather playlets, or particles; and, secondly, to reflect on the nature of their relationship or possible influence, and propose a possible historiographic approach that might be appropriate in handling the levels of uncertainty encountered.
