The paper, presented at international conference dedicated to Jiří Levý in Brno, 26/10/2017, aims at comprehending and assessment of the contribution of Jiří Levý's chapter on Drama Translation (1963/1983) to the academic study of theatre translation. The author looks not only into the theoretical background and typology of Levý's writings, but also into the possible impact of his thought on the subject of theatre translation in the later development of the discipline.
