Late La Tene Painted Pottery Decoration from the Oppidum of Staré Hradisko
Original language description
Fine painted ware is one of the most remarkable classes of the Late La Tene pottery. The largest collection of this kind of pottery in Moravia comes from the oppidum of Staré Hradisko. The paper presents an overview and classification of painted pottery decoration from the site. Painted ware may be subdivided into two basic types, primary and secondary. In most cases, the surface paint was applied first (primary painting) and various decorative motifs were subsequently painted thereupon (secondary painting). The primary painting consisted of monochrome or polychrome paint, mostly two colours alternating (white and red, in particular). The secondary painting was applied subsequently on this coloured background in dark tones (mostly black), whereby for Staré Hradisko a strict geometric decoration was characteristic.
