Sacrality of War in Ancient Rome Using the Example of Roman Fetial Priests
Original language description
This paper aims to introduce the Sacrality of war in Ancient Rome on the example of Roman Fetial priests. Jupiter Feretrius and his temple were directly connected with Fetials. The description of the temple takes part of this paper along with the history and role of Fetials - their rites concerning the keeping of peace and, if it wasn't possible, the declaration of war sanctified by the Roman Gods. The paper is based on the evidence of ancient literary sources including Livy, Plutarch, Dionysius of Halicarnassus and others.
