Mind and Body of Humanistic Buddhism: Case Study of Temple and Community of FGS Vienna
Original language description
The Fo Guang Shan (FGS) is an international Buddhist Chinese-Taiwanese order, whose specificity is the concept of humanistic Buddhism, through which the order expands and spreads Chinese/Buddhist culture around the world. The aim of this paper is twofold. First to contribute to the discussion of the globalization efforts of the FGS and to analyze specific missionary strategies through which the order spreads its doctrine/culture and consolidates its position in the originally non-Buddhist country. Second, to provide an overview of one specific space (temple) and the community of FGS in Vienna.
