Rectangular Embossed Fittings – Possible Armour Parts?
Original language description
This article focuses on a less known group of Great Moravian artifacts: small rectangular fittings made of thin sheet metal, fitted with a raised central boss. These were usually interpreted mainly as belt or horse harness fittings. The author presents a theory that they might have been parts of protective armour. His opinion is based not just on dimensions and properties of the items, but also on an experimental reconstruction of such armour and a test of mechanical resistance of the fitting against an edged weapon hit.
