Libraries helping people : Design thinking as a framework for librarians to bring social innovations

  • Original language description

The workshop aims to introduce the service design process together with the process of and tools for designing social innovations, as a methodology to create useful, feasible, sustainable, evidence-based and inclusive services that improve life-quality of people, communities, cities or society. The methodology of the workshop is reflecting the applied research study “Stimulators and Barriers Towards Social Innovations in Public Libraries: Qualitative Research Study”, particularly its outputs related to findings, that libraries and librarians don't see their services as ways to participate on solving problems and challenges of communities or whole society, but they see the servicer rather isolated from the problems. Thus the workshop focused on introducing and testing of methods e.g. stakeholder mapping, community mapping, co-design, user testing. The workshop results in tested methodology of education event, applying service design process methods and tools based on human-centered design concept, together with social innovation design and development process and tools.
