How to Balance a Power in the Kingdom. Regaining Property in the Czech lands after the Hussite revolution (1436–1460)

  • Original language description

The Hussite revolution meant a significant change in a property of crown and church estates in Bohemia. Already in 1436 Sigismund of Luxembourg intended to examine all the pledge charters for Bohemian nobility, but the intended revision of property was realized in 1453/1454. There are two manuscripts from 16th century where the revision is recorded. It contains almost 700 records of pledge and donation charters of crown and church estates mainly from the reign of Sigismund of Luxembourg, but huge amount reaches back to the reign of all his predecessors from the house of Luxembourg as well. Noblemen should proof their property rights before the established commission. Based on this revision some of estates were finally returned to the crown. The paper will examine the whole process of the revision and answer the question how the regaining of property was influenced by the political status of the holders and the effort to balance power in divided kingdom.
