Václav Jan Rosa and the first dictionary based on Czech language
Original language description
Václav Jan Rosa was a significant Czech grammarian and lexicographer of the 17th century. In this paper we will mainly focus on his dictionary Thesaurus Linguae Bohemicae which was the first dictionary to be based primarily on Czech language, i.e. lexemes and definitions are in Czech and other languages have only a supportive function. Without knowing modern lexicographical methods, he managed to provide all the information we can find in modern dictionaries and he influenced lot of other lexicographical works. Finally, we will have a look at how he linked his dictionary to his grammar, Čechořečnost, and used the linguistic material therefrom.
