"For Old Men Too Can Play, Albeit More Wisely So" : The Game of Discourses in the Ptochoprodromika
Original language description
In the beginning of the chapter, a report is provided about research and the complex scholarly discussion concerning the Ptochoprodromic poems and related texts (Theodore Prodromos’ occasional poems, the Mangana poems, and the short Majuri poem). The following two sections present and discuss in more detail the features of the four main discourses used in the collection: laudatory, supplicatory, satiric, and parodic. The chapter closes with a short note about literary parallels to this poetry, especially in the Latin West.
