Non-conservative construals with percentage quantifiers in Slavic
Original language description
Recently, it has been observed that certain percentage quantifier constructions give rise to conservative as well as apparently non-conservative readings. Across the languages examined so far, the non-conservative reading can correlate with the use of bare nominals (as opposed to definites), and it has been observed that in some languages, e.g. English, percentage quantifiers cannot appear in subject position (subject-object asymmetry). Based on a broad cross-Slavic study, we bring novel evidence for non-conservative interpretations in configurations with percentage quantifiers as well as the source of the subject-object asymmetry.
