Rule as a permanent conflict? : Albert V (II) as Margrave of Moravia and King of Bohemia
Original language description
The lecture attempted to answer the question whether the reign of Albert V (II) of Austria in Moravia (1421, as pledge lord of four towns, 1423-1439 as Margrave) and Bohemia (1421-1436, as pledge lord of České Budějovice, 1438/39 as King) represented one long conflict with the Hussite heresy and revolution, as depicted in the propaganda of the Viennese court. A closer look at the dynamics of Albert's reign shows that the struggle with the Hussites went through several phases and that in certain periods Albert managed to find a modus vivendi with the Hussites. The common means of medieval conflict resolution (arbitration, truce, landfrieden, etc.) were used and adapted to the specific circumstances of the Hussite revolution.
