Phonology Mirrors Syntax : An Experimental Study of Czech Pronominal Clitics.
Original language description
In this talk, we explore the syntax phonology interface, with a n empirical focus on pronominal clitics in Czech. These clitics are argued to be bound elements both syntactically and phonologically. Syntactically, they are classified as Wakernagel’s clitics, positioned after the first syntactic constituent. Phonologically, they are claimed to be enclitics that integrate prosodically with the preceding phonological word. Typically, these aspects of clitichood are studied independently, but our aim is to investigate their interaction, specifically whether the degree of phonological integration is influenced by the syntactic structure of the pre-clitic constituent.
