The Digitalization of Visual Culture in Modern Spirituality : How Video Games Became a Gateway to Occultism
Original language description
This chapter explores the convergence of digital media, visual culture, and modern occultism, focusing on how video games function as both symbolic archives and ritual spaces. By tracing the evolution of esoteric imagery from literature and film into interactive digital environments, the study examines how players engage with magical systems, narratives, and symbols. Through case studies and ethnographic insights from online communities, the chapter reveals how games not only depict occult themes but simulate magical logic, thus transforming play into experiential ritual practice. It argues that the aestheticization and democratization of esoteric knowledge through digital platforms, particularly within the ethos of Chaos Magick, has created a new form of participatory, visually immersive, and affectively charged spirituality.
