Original language description
The paper examines the role and purpose of the UNIDROIT Institute as an international intergovernmental organization which pursues the unification of (private) law. The first part of the paper concentrates on institutional aspects, competences and the legislative process leading to the adoption of a unifying instrument. The second part offers a critical analysis of the UNIDROIT Principles for International Commercial Contracts as the most successful unification instrument of this international organization. Finally, the paper identifies two main goals of unification: efficiency and humanity.
