The financial assistance fund and EU law
Original language description
One of the first steps how to solve the euro crisis was to set up several temporary financial assistance funds. However, this temporariness seemed to be a nuisance, so an intergovernmental agreement between euro area Member States and the EU, in particular the reform of the EU Treaty, led to the establishment of a permanent financial assistance fund - the European Stability Mechanism (ESM). The ESM is also one of the funds to be involved in the European strategy , the so-called Recovery and Resilience Facility for the EU.
