Fears of gifted children
Original language description
Fears are a normal part of childhood because fear is an innate, protective response to situations or objects, which appear threatening or dangerous. Fear is a useful emotion for the survival of the individual and the species. Child developmental researchshows a clear stage - specific fears. Fears in young typical children commonly concetrate on certain animals (like snakes, tigres, lions, dogs.) Sometimes children are afraid of the dark or of unseen monsters. Fears of social evaluation and competence are typical for the period of middle childhood and adolescence Presented research is a part broadly composed longitudinal study of socio-emotional characteristics and adjustment of intelectually gifted children in the Czech Republic.
