The role of gendered identities in care work
Original language description
This paper draws on ethnographic research on Slovak au pairs working in London during 2004 and 2005 (Búriková and Miller 2010, Sekeráková Búriková 2014) and interviews with both providers and employers of paid childcare in Slovakia during 2013 and 2014.I will show how work related to paid care is constructed and experienced in relation to particular gender identities. I will concentrate on various forms of employment (i.e. au pairs, baby-sitters, professional nannies hired through agencies, elderly women working informally as fulltime or part-time nannies).
