New Media in Everyday Life: Preliminary Observations and Questions
Original language description
Domestication of a variety of new media technologies is gradually changing our everyday lives. Descriptions of this transformation usually stress the process of individualisation of our media practices and changes in our experience of ?privacy?. However, the tendency to individuate consumption of media content and objects can hardly fully explain the transformation of ?television home? into a qualitatively new everyday environment. The chapter is focused on preliminary observations emerging from ongoingethnographic research of current media use in Czech families and it formulates preliminary remarks and questions on the character of media uses, on reflexivity of construction of our media ensemble, on the private/public dichotomy and on the ontologicalsecurity in a situation where the television set is changing its role.
