Using of Biometrics in Old and Young Age

  • Original language description

Biometrics is an increasingly evolving method of identifying and verifying individuals, but it carries with it the risk of abuse. Despite the increasingly massive use in various fields, as well as in our daily lives (e.g. unlocking the phone with a fingerprint), we do not know much about the ways and motives of use. The current situation has significantly increased the use of modern technology in the purchase of goods and services, as well as in communication with others. The crucial question is to what extent these technologies are used by older adults or more widely, how the use of biometric technologies and awareness of them varies according to age. The data set includes 2500 respondents, aged from 12 years. The survey was conducted by F2F, in September - October 2020, so our data also capture the current rapid change in the use of modern technologies. At the same time, they make it possible to compare the youngest users with the oldest old. The data were also collected concerning potential regional and educational differences and thus provide a unique probe into the use and knowledge of biometric systems of the population of the Czech Republic across age, region and socioeconomic status. In our paper, we focus mainly on age differences in knowledge and use of biometrics.
