Accumulation of iodide in rat thyroid and skin is reduced by high bromide intake

  • Original language description

As we have shown previously that high levels of bromide in the organism of the rat significantly influenced the extent of accumulation of iodide in the thyroid and also its elimination from the body, we intended to find out whether similar influences onthe transport processes could occur also in the skin. The kinetics and extent of iodide uptake and elimination by the skin were found to be markedly influenced by a high bromide intake both under conditions of sufficient iodine supply and, even more profoundly, under conditions of iodine deficiency.
