Effects of high bromide intake on various aspects of iodine metabolism in the rat
Original language description
We have demonstrated a significant influence of an excessively high bromide intake in adult male and female rats on the kinetics of radioiodide uptake and elimination by the thyroid gland, skin, and mammary glands. From the results of our experiments, weconcluded that high bromide levels in the organism of experimental animals could affect their iodine metabolism in two parallel ways: by a decrease in iodide accumulation in the thyroid, and by a rise in iodide excretion from the body by the kidneys.
