    Fractionation of iodine in iodine-enriched algae Chlorella

    Iodine as an essential element has a great importance in human and animal health. Concerning animal husbandry, feed fortified by iodine provides adequate supply of this element and influences the health of animals and the quality of production. The bioavailability of iodine depends on the form of iodine. This work deals with determination of iodine forms in iodine-enriched algae Chlorella, which is cultivated in Institute of Microbiology (Czech Academy of Science) and consecutively applied in in-vivo experiments at University of Veterinary and Pharmaceutical Sciences. Fractionation protocol including sequential extraction by chloroform, water and sodium dodecylsulphate solution was designed. Inductively coupled plasma optical emission spectrometry wasemployed for determination of iodine in fractions solubilized with TMAH.
