The microsatellite variability and parasitism in native and introduced populations of four Neogobius species (Gobiidae)
Original language description
Microsatellite DNA was used for determination of differences in genetic diversity between native and non-native populations of four Ponto?Caspian gobies, Neogobius kessleri, N. melanostomus, N. fluviatilis and N. gymnotrachelus. In general, low level ofpolymorphism of microsatellite loci was observed in the introduced populations of Neogobius species comparing to the native populations, which could be explained as the consequences of invasive strategy and founder effect. Parasite fauna of N. kessleri and N. melanostomus (the same river system) showed slight differences in both parasite abundance and parasite species richness. On the other hand, non-native populations of N. fluviatilis and N. gymnotrachelus (dissimilar river system) were less parasitized compared to the native populations. The results obtained from the analyses suggest that higher difference in microsatellite variability between native and non-native populations in Neogobius species is related to the difference in leve
