Antibacterial activity of lysozyme and complement in canine blood sera
Original language description
The aim of this work was to analyse total bacteriolytic activity of complement and lysozyme concentration in 235 samples of canine blood sera. Method based on the bioluminescence of recombinant bacteria Escherichia coli was used for complement activity measurement. Lysozyme concentration was determined by radial diffusion in agarose gels. Temperature of inactivation of complement cascade was measured in few selected samples and was set to 49-50 Celsius degrees. Differences of complement activity and lysozyme concentration between age and weight categories of male dogs and bitches individually were compared. Statistical differences of complement activity between indvidual groups of age cathegories and also of weight cathegories of bitches were found. Statistical differences of lysozyme concentration between indvidual groups of age cathegories of male dogs were also found. No statistically significant correlation between complement activity and lysozyme concentration was determined.
