Structure of cephalic end and eggs of Cithariniella khalili Petter, Vassiliades & Troncy, 1972 (Pharyngodonidae)
Original language description
The structure of female cephalic end and eggs with filaments of the pharyngodonid species, Cithariniella khalili Petter, Vassiliades et Troncy, 1972, was studied by scanning electron microscopy (SEM). C. khalili is a parasite of African freshwater fishes, in our case was obtained from Synodontis frontosa Vaillant from the Lake Turkana (Kenya). The found morphological features correspond with the diagnose of genus and fit into original description of C. khalili given by Petter, Vassiliades & Troncy (1972) and also extend later contributions of other authors [e. g., Moravec (1994); Koubková et al. (in press)]. The mouth opening was found to be triangulary bounded by three lips, each of them contains 2 oral lamellae. Mouth aperture is surrounded by four large, elongate cephalic papillae and two small globular amphids which lay on the edges of oral lamellae of lips. Buccal cavity was observed too, there are three sclerotized, striated pieces ? chitinous ribbed flaps.
