DNA-based sex determination in fragmented children and undeterminable skeletal remains from burial site The South Outer Precinct (Pohansko near Breclav)
Original language description
The aim of this study was to determine the sex of childrens and unidentified skeletons using methods of polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Two common sex markers (the amelogenin gene and the SRY gene) were used. The South Outer Precinct is the second largest burial site that was discovered at Pohansko, which is situated near the town Břeclav in the south-east area of the Czech Republic. It is dated approximately to 9-10th century. Bone material was excavated mostly during a rescue archaeological researchin the period of 1975 ? 1979. The skeletal remains from The South Outer Precinct are badly preserved, the bones are fragmentary and in most cases unidentifiable. The results of this study give new information about the demography of this burial site.
