Monitoring weather situation in the field: an approach based on Sensor observation service
Original language description
The paper describes a standard-based approach to monitoring weather situation in the field. This activity is usually performed with the use of sensors, i.e. devices that measure various physical quantities, e.g. air temperature. Because of a wide varietyof sensor systems, standardized transfer and access to sensor data is necessary for international cooperation (e.g. within the NATO), but also for applications where sensors from different systems are used. Such unifying approach is described by SensorObservation Service (SOS), a specification designed by the Open Geospatial Consortium. Therefore, the theoretical part of the paper introduces main principles of the SOS specification. Other sensor related specifications included among the Sensor Web Enablement (SWE) standards are also briefly mentioned. The practical part of the paper describes development of a new solution of monitoring weather situation based on the SOS concept.
