IMPROVEMENT OF SURFACE PROPERTIES OF REINFORCING POLYPROPYLENE FIBRES BY ATMOSPHERIC PRESSURE PLASMA TREATMENT
Original language description
Activation polypropylene (PP) fibres used for reinforcement of concrete was tested in atmospheric pressure Diffuse Coplanar Surface Barrier Discharge generated in ambient air. The surface properties and wettability were studied by contact angle measurement and amount of absorbed water measurement. Surface morphology was investigated by optical stereo microscope. The plasma treatment changed totally hydrophobic surface of untreated PP fibres with water contact angle about 110 degree to hydrophilic surface with contact angle of about 50 degree. In comparison with sized fibres plasma modification was resistant to washing out. The plasma treatment improved surface wettability without any macroscopically observable mechanical damage of PP fibres.
