Comparison of selected immunological and biochemical parametres in ultra runners and ultra cyclists participating in 24 hour races and multi-stage races.
Original language description
This study examines ultra runners and ultra cyclists who completed 24 h and multi stage races, detailing biochemical and immunological changes before and immediately after the race. These changes are related mainly to liver and muscle damage incidence and upper respiratory tract infections (URTI) occurence. There was a signifiant increase in post race levels of both enzymes - ALT and LDH in all tested groups. IgA post-race levels didn?t show any significant diference, while IgA post race levels were decreased. This, together with significantly increased post-race leukocyte counts, could give us a valuable information concerning possitive and negative effects of strenous exercise on human health.
