Preliminary study on metazoan parasites of gobiid fishes (Gobiidae, Actinopterygii) from northern Adriatic Sea
Original language description
The aim of this preliminary study is to report and compare metazoan parasite abundance, prevalence and intensity of infection. Research is being conducted on marine gobies (Gobiidae, Actinopterygii) in the northern part of the Adriatic Sea in the Kvarnerregion of Croatia, in the vicinity of Selce village and Krk Island. Host species were collected in two periods of 2014, May and October. A total of 688 specimens belonging to 24 species were caught using the Quinaldine anesthetic and a hand-net, or by abeach seine net. Collected fish were immediately placed in a tank with original local water. All fish were dissected as soon as possible. The following parts of a fish were examined: gills, fins, external body surface, eyes, brain, body cavity, gonads, swim bladder, gall bladder, liver and intestine. All metazoan ectoparasites (Monogenea and Crustacea) and endoparasites (Trematoda, Cestoda, Nematoda and Acanthocephala) were removed from each parasitized fish individual.
