Eneolithic hillfort Starý Zámek near Jevišovice. A contribution to lithic chipped industry research in southwestern Moravia

  • Original language description

A very important research objective is the lithic collection from the fortified Eneolithic hillfort Starý Zámek near Jevišovice. The collection of artifacts, both from the surface and excavations of J. Palliardi, accounts to 474 lithic chipped pieces. The assemblage includes variety of endscrapers, blades, and borers and ? to smaller extent ? cores. Interesting are tools of the Krummesser type from layer B and a bifacially retouched artifact (dagger or sickle fragment) of the Bavarian tabular chert (Plattensilex). Most artifacts were produced of local rocks (cherts of the Krumlovský les type and weathering products of serpentinite), although those of silicites from glacial sediments and chert of the Stránská skála type have been also registered. Especially interesting is the presence of Bavarian Plattensilex (at least two artifacts) and rocks of the Polish provenience (silicites from the Cracow?Częstochowa Jurassic Upland and spotted chert of the Świeciechów type).
