Plastics Waste and Circular Economy. Low-Density PolyEthylene recycling feasibility study
Original language description
Circular economy, nowadays, is an inherent part of the EU economic development. Plastics waste management is an enormous unutilised potential awaiting exploitation if a new efficient system of collection, transport and recycling technology can be put into place. This paper serves to analyse the current situation and trends in plastic waste management in the European Union. It renders a discussion on the optimum balance of plastics in the context of a circular economy encompassing the association between urban plastics mining and efficient plastic waste collection processes- its aggregation, sorting, processing, energy recovery and outputs of recycling materials. The paper focuses on Low-Density PolyEthylene (LDPE) plastics accounting for more than 17 percent of produced plastic in Europe. Described and evaluated are the available LDPE processing technologies with accompanying analysis of a newly developed technological line for LDPE processing.
