Inorganic geochemistry of the early-Miocene low-rank coals in the Most Basin, Czech Republic

  • Original language description

The Most Basin represents a coal basin with a long mining history in the Czech Republic. The majority of palaeo-environmental and geochemical studies have been focused on the upper part of the coal-bearing Most Formation. The coal from the Most Basin is generally enriched in As, Cr, Ni, Co, Cu and Zn. This study evaluates the distribution of V, Cr, Ni, Cu, Zn, Pb, Se, As, Mn, and Co from the lower part of the Holešice Member. The results proved high variability within the short space, especially in As mobility. Mobility of all identified elements under oxidising conditions prevailed in coal from the Lower Bench. Reducing and acidic conditions were confirmed to dominate in coal from the Upper Bench.
